Evidence-Based Practices
Our teams offer the best possible treatment to our clients and their families through the use of evidence-based practices, or EBPs.
Therapies That Work
Each evidence-based practice we use in treatment has been vetted by our clinicians and backed by decades of research and application. EBPs are crucial for the addiction treatment community. By adhering to this set of standards, clinicians can pull from a toolbox of effective modalities that may be tailored to each person’s culture, preferences, and characteristics. Opting to follow these industry guidelines also improves client outcomes across the board, setting the stage for lasting recovery. Finally, evidence-based practices protect clients from unsafe or unproven methods that may harm them or derail their progress.
Evidence-Based Practices Used at Cumberland Heights
Thanks to our use of cutting-edge, data-backed therapies, Cumberland Heights has received accreditation and acknowledgment from various governing bodies. In December of 2019, we became the first ASAM-certified addiction treatment center in Tennessee. The Joint Commission has also given the gold seal of approval to our evidence-based approach.
Here are some of the EBPs that earned these recognitions:
Proven Therapies in Our Continuum of Care
Together, these modalities form the foundation for every individual and group program at Cumberland Heights. Our comprehensive approach spans the entire continuum of care, including:
- Medical detox
- Residential addiction treatment
- Outpatient and intensive outpatient programming
- Extended care services (aftercare)
- Relapse prevention
From one-on-one psychotherapy sessions to AA and NA meetings to process groups, our clinicians are empowered to provide tailored and proven care for clients at every phase of the process.
Our evidence-based practices inform treatment for addiction to:
- Alcohol (mild, moderate, and severe alcohol use disorder),
- Prescription medications (opioids, benzodiazepines, sedatives, and stimulants), and
- Illicit drugs (marijuana, heroin, and meth).
Additionally, EBPs create a framework for the effective treatment of co-occurring mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and trauma-related disorders. These are diagnoses that commonly reinforce, complicate, or worsen substance use disorders. In order for a client to recover, both conditions must be treated. With evidence-based programming, this type of synchronized healing becomes possible.
According to the 2021 Cumberland Heights Outcomes Report, the evidence based therapies listed above resulted in a 68% reduction in depression symptoms, a 63% drop in anxiety symptoms, and a 74% decrease in cravings. Once clients enroll in programming at Cumberland Heights, they receive access to life-changing therapies by providers who are attentive to their specific symptom reduction.
As Tennessee’s leading treatment center, Cumberland Heights strives to provide scientifically sound therapies that equip each client for lasting recovery. Our evidence-based practices are rooted in sound research and backed by the outcomes data collected at our facilities by caring, credentialed clinicians.
