Medically Supervised Detox
Detox, for some, is the first step in the recovery process. Cumberland Heights provides medically supervised detoxification services on our main campus to those struggling with the disease of addiction.
Safe, Comfortable Detoxification
When a person is addicted to a substance, their body has gotten used to functioning with a certain level of drugs or alcohol in their system. Detox is the process of clearing the body of these substances, while simultaneously managing any withdrawal symptoms that arise.
Those who attempt to quit using drugs or alcohol on their own may struggle to stay sober. This is, in part, due to the side effects of sudden cessation. Quitting “cold turkey” can result in life-threatening health issues like seizures, tremors and tachycardia. Therefore, it is always best to seek help from an accredited detox facility. Our medical professional will determine if detox is right for you and with their care, symptoms may be eliminated, or less severe.
At Cumberland Heights, our highly trained team members provide proven treatment to those suffering with substance use disorder and experiencing withdrawal. During the early days of detox, patients receive personal, round-the-clock care from our nursing staff. Our detoxification program is right on our main campus, ensuring that residents are able to benefit from each level of care, all in one convenient location. Your discretion and comfort are our first priority.

Does Insurance Cover Detox?
Yes, most health insurance plans provide some level of coverage for detoxification. Typically, your insurer will require that acute withdrawal management services should be medically necessary, appropriate and evidence-based. Our program meets all of these criteria. Some providers require a medical referral or professional recommendation before approving detox treatment.
We understand that insurance coverage can be complicated. That’s why Cumberland Heights works with your insurer to maximize your benefits. Our admissions team members are experts in the process of insurance verification; they will interface directly with your provider to learn what is covered, what your financial responsibility (if any) will look like and which treatment plan is right for you.

Detox is necessary for those who have developed severe addictions to alcohol, benzodiazepines, barbiturates and opioids. Individuals with cases of polysubstance abuse may also require medical detoxification.
People who have co-occurring mental health conditions which may be worsened by withdrawal – depression, bipolar disorder and personality disorders – are also encouraged to consider detoxing in a supervised setting.
The time it takes to fully detox from drugs or alcohol varies based on the substance(s) used, how heavy your usage was, your medical history, your age and the presence of co-occurring health problems. Detox programs typically last for 3, 5 or 7 days, depending on your needs.
