Spiritual Care

Empowering Recovery Through Spiritual Care

Spiritual care plays a key role in the recovery process, offering individuals a sense of purpose, connection, and inner peace. Our goal is to help patients explore their beliefs, gain deeper self-awareness, and build resilience through a connection to something greater. Spiritual care enhances traditional therapies and empowers individuals pursuing recovery.

Spiritual Care at Cumberland Heights

At Cumberland Heights, we offer a variety of services to support your spiritual journey, including meditation, prayer, mindfulness practices, support groups, and individual sessions with our dedicated Spiritual Care Directors. Whether you’re exploring the difference between religion and spirituality or seeking guidance through grief, anger, shame, or forgiveness, our team is here to walk alongside you every step of the way.

With two full-time Spiritual Care Directors on staff, we provide personalized care tailored to your unique needs and beliefs. Our spiritual care and grief processing groups create a safe space to navigate complex emotions and rediscover a sense of purpose and connection. We respect your personal beliefs and are committed to supporting your healing in a way that best meets your needs.

Spiritual Care Principles

At Cumberland Heights, Spiritual Care is taught, modeled, and practiced in a manner that supports the principles, practices, and fellowship of the 12-Step Programs. Nearly 60 years of experience has led us to develop the following principles for use in guiding our interactions with those we serve.

Principle #1: Spiritual care begins with the understanding that being on a spiritual journey is fundamental to the recovery of those suffering from substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.

Principle #2: Spiritual care is communal. The isolation and disconnection from self, others, and the sacred begins to heal in community.

Principle #3: Spiritual care is rooted in experience; we share our experience by listening to the stories of others and telling our own.

Principle #4: Spiritual Care is inclusive.

Principle #5: Spiritual awakening is a journey that takes time.

Principle #6: Cumberland Heights’ Spiritual Care is guided by approved recovery literature.

Principle #7: Cumberland Heights’ Spiritual Care focuses on action; specifically, we strive to help patients adopt daily practices that will become a core part of their recovery program.
